Websites with Math information and resources for Families

I am often asked about resources for the adults in the family so they can support the elementary school student with this "new math."  Well, math is math, however it does not look like the math we learned in school.  Contacting your child's teacher is a great first step in getting information.  Teachers are more than willing to help you understand the math so you can support your child.  I have gathered some resources that may assist you if you need a little more support.  Please let me know if you find others that I can share or if you have any comments about any of these resources.  I would like to know if you find any one more helpful than another.    I will keep adding more as I find them.  Happy Mathing!

November, finally Up and Running

So I was really struggling with my webpage and how to support our families at Whittier with Math information, news and resources.  I looked around for the best way to do all that I might need to do.  I finally decided on Blogger.  I can post information and resources while linking this to the Whittier site.  So here we are in November and I am up and running.
Who am I and Where am I?  As the Math Specialist I keep track of our math program here at Whittier.  I consult with families, teachers and other staff to support our students in Math.  I work in 3 classrooms on a regular basis and as needed in others.  I meet with staff to help plan lessons, go over data and assessments, make individual plans for students needing more direct support.
How can I support families?  I am available to meet with families anytime they need more support.  I can provide families with ideas, resources and clarify information that may be unclear.  I can be reached via phone or email.  My direct line is 240-236-3180 and my email is kim.stewart@fcps.org.
I will continue to post information and add important dates to my blog.  As I am just getting started, but not nearly finished.  Happy Mathing!
